Hepatitis B Surface Antigen-Specific Antibody (Anti-HBs)

Target
Anti-HBs
Molecular classification
Antibody, Immunoglobulin
01

Overview

Hepatitis B surface antigen-specific antibody production refers to the immune process by which B cells generate antibodies (primarily anti-HBs) that specifically recognize and bind to the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), a key protein on the envelope of the hepatitis B virus (HBV). The presence of these antibodies is a marker of protective immunity, either following recovery from acute HBV infection or successful vaccination. Anti-HBs antibodies neutralize HBV, mediate ADCC/ADCP, and form immune complexes. Detection in serum indicates immunity, while absence with persistent HBsAg suggests chronic infection. Modern techniques allow for development of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies.
