The interaction between Hepatitis B virus (HBV) antigens and antigen-presenting cells (APCs) is central to the immune response against HBV infection. This process involves the recognition, processing, and presentation of viral antigens by APCs—primarily dendritic cells (DCs), macrophages, Kupffer cells, and B cells—to T lymphocytes. The efficiency and nature of these interactions determine whether HBV is cleared or persists chronically. Dysregulation of APC function in chronic HBV impairs effective T cell and B cell responses, leading to immune tolerance and viral persistence.
