Target intelligence / Profile preview
The hepatitis B virus (HBV) core protein, often referred to as HBc or Cp, is a multifunctional viral protein that plays essential roles throughout the HBV life cycle. It is the primary structural component of the viral nucleocapsid and is crucial for viral replication, genome packaging, and interaction with host cell machinery. It is considered an attractive antiviral target because it has no human homologs. Small molecules known as Core Allosteric Modulators (CAMs) can disrupt proper capsid assembly or function.
