Hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA is the genetic material of the hepatitis B virus, a partially double-stranded, circular DNA molecule approximately 3.2 kilobases in length. This viral genome is encapsidated within the nucleocapsid and plays a central role in HBV replication, infection, and pathogenesis. Detection and quantification of HBV DNA in serum are reliable markers of active viral replication and are used to monitor response to antiviral therapy. The persistence of nuclear cccDNA underlies chronicity and therapeutic challenges associated with hepatitis B virus infections.
