Overview
The hepatitis B virus large surface antigen (LHBsAg) is one of three isoforms of the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), forming the viral envelope. LHBsAg is a multifunctional glycoprotein crucial for viral entry, immune evasion, and pathogenesis. It binds to the host cell receptor NTCP, facilitates viral entry into hepatocytes, suppresses innate and adaptive immunity, and its accumulation can induce endoplasmic reticulum stress, promoting liver cancer. Its presence is a key marker for HBV infection, and mutations can lead to diagnostic and vaccine escape.
