Overview
The PreS1 region is a domain of the large envelope protein (L-HBsAg) of the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It plays a critical role in viral attachment and entry into hepatocytes, which are the primary target cells for HBV infection. The PreS1 region is located at the N-terminus of L-HBsAg and binds to the sodium taurocholate co-transporting polypeptide (NTCP) receptor on hepatocytes. Antibodies targeting PreS1 can neutralize HBV infectivity.
