Hepatitis C virus RNA is the genetic material of the hepatitis C virus, a positive-sense, single-stranded RNA molecule approximately 9,600 nucleotides in length. It contains essential regulatory elements for translation and replication and encodes all viral proteins. The unique structures within HCV RNA, especially highly conserved regions like IRES, are attractive targets for antiviral therapies. However, high sequence variability outside these regions poses challenges for broad-spectrum targeting unless absolutely conserved sequences are chosen.
