Overview

Hepatoma-derived growth factor, related protein 3 (HDGFRP3), also known as HDGFL3 or HRP-3, is a member of the HDGF protein family and functions primarily as a growth factor with structural similarity to HDGF but distinct expression, being mainly found in nervous tissues[2][3][6][7]. This protein contains a conserved PWWP domain implicated in chromatin association, DNA binding (mainly nonspecific), and possible regulation of gene expression[1][2]. HDGFRP3 enhances DNA synthesis and cell proliferation, and is involved in mitogenic, angiogenic, and anti-apoptotic processes; it has also been shown to play roles in neural development, neuroprotection, and maintenance of neurons, as well as tumorigenesis[2][3][6][7]. It is considered a potential target for therapeutic intervention in cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, but no clinically approved drugs currently target this protein directly[2][3].
