Target intelligence / Profile preview
HepG2 hepatocyte membrane proteins refer to the diverse array of proteins located on the plasma membrane of the HepG2 cell line, which is derived from human hepatocellular carcinoma tissue (ATCC, 2023). This collection includes various receptors, transporters, and enzymes that are characteristic of liver cells, such as the LDL receptor and various ATP-binding cassette transporters (PubMed: 21857952). Although HepG2 cells are a common model, they often exhibit altered expression levels and metabolic profiles compared to primary human hepatocytes (PubMed: 19711396). In pharmacological research, these membrane proteins are frequently studied to understand drug uptake, biliary excretion, and hepatotoxicity (PubMed: 30256124). They also serve as a platform for identifying potential cell-surface biomarkers for liver cancer diagnosis and targeted therapy (PubMed: 25650381). Because this term describes a complex proteome rather than a single molecular entity, it is not considered a specific therapeutic target in the traditional sense. Instead, it serves as a biological model for studying hepatic functions and disease mechanisms in vitro.
Not applicable as this refers to a heterogeneous collection of proteins rather than a single therapeutic target.
