Target intelligence / Profile preview
The heptad repeat 1 (HR1) domain is a highly conserved region within the S2 subunit of the coronavirus spike (S) glycoprotein. The spike protein is a class I viral fusion protein responsible for mediating entry of coronaviruses into host cells. The HR1 domain plays a critical role in the membrane fusion process that allows viral genetic material to enter host cells. It forms an α-helical trimeric coiled-coil motif and interacts with the HR2 domain to form a six-helix bundle, essential for merging viral and host cell membranes.
Block virus-cell membrane fusion by disrupting six-helix bundle formation
