Overview

HERC2 pseudogene 9 (HERC2P9) is a pseudogene located on chromosome 15. Pseudogenes are genetic sequences similar to known genes but are generally considered non-functional due to mutations or lack of protein-coding ability. HERC2P9 is predicted to be related to the HERC2 family, which is otherwise involved in protein ubiquitination and other cellular processes. However, the precise function of HERC2P9 is not established, and it does not have a demonstrated role in disease, drug targeting, or canonical biological pathways. It is neither a therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter) nor part of any established drug mechanism or biomarker set. Most references and biological studies focus on the functional HERC2 gene, not HERC2P9. The functional HERC2 protein is a large E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase involved in ubiquitination, DNA repair, pigmentation, and tumor suppression, but none of these attributed roles are confirmed for the HERC2P9 pseudogene specifically. If you are seeking actionable therapeutic or biological target information, HERC2P9 is not currently recognized as one.
