Herpes simplex virus (HSV) DNA synthesis refers to the process by which HSV replicates its double-stranded DNA genome within infected host cells. This is a critical step in the viral life cycle, enabling the production of new virions and propagation of infection. The process involves a cascade of viral proteins, including UL9, ICP8, UL30, UL42, UL5, UL8, and UL52, and relies on a theta-type replication mechanism that transitions to a rolling-circle mode.
