The herpes simplex virus (HSV) helicase-primase complex is a multi-protein enzyme essential for viral DNA replication. It is a key component of the HSV replisome, responsible for unwinding double-stranded DNA and synthesizing RNA primers necessary for DNA synthesis during viral genome replication. The complex consists of three subunits: UL5 (helicase), UL52 (primase), and UL8 (accessory). It is a target for antiviral drug development.
