Target intelligence / Profile preview
Herpes simplex virus type 1 is a widespread human pathogen responsible primarily for oral herpes but capable of causing diverse clinical syndromes through its ability to establish lifelong latency within sensory neurons followed by periodic reactivation. Its structure includes a dsDNA genome within an enveloped capsid. While incurable at present due to its latent reservoir in nerve tissue, antiviral therapy can manage acute episodes effectively.
