HNRNPA1P23 is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a DNA sequence with high similarity to the functional hnRNPA1 gene but has accumulated mutations and alterations that prevent it from coding for a protein[1][4]. The functional hnRNPA1 gene encodes a protein involved in RNA processing, splicing, transport, and regulation and has significant roles in the nucleus and cytoplasm relating to stress response, neurodegeneration, and cancer biology[2][3][6]. However, the "pseudogene 23" variant (HNRNPA1P23) is not translated into protein and does not confer the same molecular or biological functions as hnRNPA1. There is currently no evidence that HNRNPA1P23 itself serves as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or direct participant in cellular pathways or disease mechanisms[1][4][8].
