Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1 pseudogene 28 (HNRNPA1P28) is a processed pseudogene related to the functional heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1 gene. Pseudogenes such as HNRNPA1P28 arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and contain sequence homology to functional genes, but are typically non-coding due to frameshifts, premature stop codons, or lack of regulatory elements[1][3][5]. While most pseudogenes do not produce functional proteins, some may have regulatory roles in the cell, influencing gene expression, especially in cancer and other diseases, by acting as competitive endogenous RNAs or by producing small interfering RNAs from their transcripts[5][7]. There is currently no evidence that HNRNPA1P28 is used as a drug target or has a direct therapeutic application in biomedical research[1][3][5].
