Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1 pseudogene 42 (HNRNPA1P42) is a human pseudogene located in the genome related by sequence homology to the functional RNA-binding protein HNRNPA1. Unlike protein-coding genes, pseudogenes such as HNRNPA1P42 do not encode a functional protein and are not considered therapeutic targets. Some pseudogenes may have regulatory or non-coding RNA roles, but there is no published evidence supporting a biological or pathological role for HNRNPA1P42. The functional gene HNRNPA1, however, is a major regulator of pre-mRNA processing, alternative splicing, and is implicated in various diseases, especially cancers; these functions are not attributed to HNRNPA1P42.
