Overview

Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1 pseudogene 58 (HNRNPA1P58) is a processed pseudogene related to the HNRNPA1 gene, which encodes a protein involved in pre-mRNA processing, RNA splicing, and other aspects of RNA metabolism. Unlike the HNRNPA1 gene, HNRNPA1P58 contains mutations and does not produce a functional protein. While some pseudogenes are transcribed and may exert noncoding regulatory effects, there is currently no experimental evidence that HNRNPA1P58 has a functional role in human biology or disease. It is catalogued in several human gene databases, but should not be confused with its protein-coding parent, HNRNPA1, which is a functionally important RNA-binding protein relevant to various cellular processes and diseases, including some cancers and neurodegenerative disorders. HNRNPA1P58 is sometimes confused with HNRNPA1, which is a functionally significant protein and therapeutic interest target. The pseudogene HNRNPA1P58 is not therapeutically actionable or recognized as a drug target.

02

Mechanism of action

None. No mechanism of action is known, as it is not an active target

03

Biological functions

Current evidence suggests no direct biological function, as it is not translated into protein. However, some pseudogenes can act as regulatory non-coding RNAs, affecting gene expression indirectly. There is no specific evidence that HNRNPA1P58 exerts such effects.
04

Disease associations

OtherSome pseudogenes have been implicated in cancer and other diseases through indirect regulatory mechanisms, but there is no direct evidence linking HNRNPA1P58 to any disease.
05

Safety considerations

None specific. Pseudogenes generally present no direct therapeutic safety concerns, as they are not targets of intervention.
