Overview

Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A3 (HNRNPA3) is a multifunctional, predominantly nuclear RNA-binding protein of the hnRNP A/B family[1][2][3][4][5]. It plays vital roles in mRNA splicing via the spliceosome, regulation of telomere length (as a negative regulator by inhibiting telomerase activity), and post-transcriptional gene regulation, including the transport and stability of RNA transcripts[1][2][3][4][5]. HNRNPA3 also contributes to cellular differentiation, telomere biology, and neuroprotection, with particular significance in neurodegenerative diseases such as C9orf72-associated ALS and FTLD, where its sequestration into inclusions is correlated with enhanced pathogenesis[1][5]. In oncology, HNRNPA3 is involved in hepatocellular carcinoma progression (serving as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker), colorectal cancer, bladder cancer chemoresistance, and more broadly in cancer cell differentiation and survival[3]. It is not currently a therapeutic target for any approved drugs and no direct inhibitors or modulators are clinically available or described in current scientific literature[2][3].
