Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein C-like 2 (HNRNPCL2) is part of the hnRNP C subfamily, characterized as an RNA-binding protein and a component of nuclear ribonucleoprotein complexes[5][7]. The precise biological function of HNRNPCL2 remains unclear, though it may play a role in nucleosome assembly and neutralization of basic proteins such as core hnRNPs A and B[7]. Evidence suggests this gene encodes a protein similar in sequence and structure to other hnRNP C subfamily members, but Bioinformatics and sequence analysis indicate HNRNPCL2 is more accurately classified as a pseudogene or a minor, less-characterized protein[3][5]. HNRNPCL2 is sometimes referred to as a processed pseudogene (HNRNPCP5) and may not produce a functional protein in all cell types[5]. It lacks documented interactions with therapeutically relevant drugs, and there are no known clinical biomarkers or safety concerns. The C subfamily of hnRNPs (with HNRNP C as the canonical functional protein) is involved in pre-mRNA processing, RNA stability, and regulation of gene expression[1][4][3], but the specific biological and clinical roles of HNRNPCL2 are not well established in the scientific literature. Key correction: The target is most accurately described as non-canonical, with unclear or uncertain relevance as a distinct therapeutic target. It may be a pseudogene or have extremely limited, as-yet-undefined biological impact.
