HNRNPCP6, or heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein C pseudogene 6, is classified as a processed pseudogene in the human genome[4]. It is highly homologous to the parental gene encoding heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein C (HNRNPC), but it typically does not encode a functional protein due to disruptive mutations or lack of regulatory elements required for expression. Like other pseudogenes, HNRNPCP6 may influence gene expression at the RNA level, for instance, by acting as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) that sequesters microRNAs or RNA-binding proteins, or occasionally by producing regulatory RNA species[2]. Though the biological significance of many pseudogenes remains unclear, increasing evidence suggests some pseudogenes play regulatory roles in cancer and other diseases by modulating the expression of parental or related genes[2]. However, for HNRNPCP6 itself, there is currently no direct evidence for a functional role or validated disease mechanism.
