Overview

Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein D pseudogene 2 (HNRNPDP2) is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic DNA sequence similar to a known gene but is typically non-functional; it does not encode a functional protein. HNRNPDP2 shares sequence homology with genes in the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) family, which are RNA-binding proteins involved in processing pre-mRNA and various aspects of RNA metabolism, but HNRNPDP2 itself is not known to produce a functional protein and thus is not involved in typical hnRNP protein functions nor established as a drug target. HNRNPDP2 is a pseudogene and not a drug or therapeutic target because it does not encode a protein product. Pseudogenes sometimes arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events, where the new sequence loses the ability to produce functional RNA or protein. While functional hnRNP D (AUF1) and its family members play important roles in gene expression regulation and disease, HNRNPDP2 does not partake in these roles since it is not expressed as a protein. There is no evidence for interacting drugs, disease associations, biomarkers, or safety concerns specific to this pseudogene.
