Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein F (HNRNPF)

Target
HNRNPF
Molecular classification
RNA-binding protein, Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) family

Overview

Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein F (HNRNPF) is a ubiquitously expressed RNA-binding protein that complexes with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA) and regulates alternative splicing, polyadenylation, and other aspects of mRNA metabolism and transport in the nucleus. It binds primarily to guanosine-rich RNA tracts and can influence RNA maturation and export. HNRNPF is structurally characterized by three quasi-RNA recognition motif (qRRM) domains and is a member of the hnRNP protein superfamily. By modulating pre-mRNA processing and mRNA stability, HNRNPF has been implicated in the regulation of gene expression and the etiology of several disease states, including certain cancers, neurodevelopmental syndromes, and neurological disorders. It is not currently considered a direct therapeutic target for small molecule drugs or biologics.
