Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein K pseudogene 4 (HNRNPKP4) is classified as a pseudogene—specifically, a noncoding genomic DNA sequence related to the functional gene coding for heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein K (HNRNPK)[1][3]. Pseudogenes such as HNRNPKP4 typically arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and generally lack protein-coding capability due to disabling mutations. There is no established evidence supporting the direct translation or functional protein product from HNRNPKP4, nor is there evidence that makes it a druggable or therapeutic target[1][3][9]. Its parent gene, HNRNPK, encodes an RNA- and DNA-binding protein with roles in gene regulation, but these functions do not apply to the pseudogene form. The biological relevance of most pseudogenes is limited; in some cases, pseudogenes can affect the expression of their parental genes via transcript-level regulatory mechanisms, but no such activity has been described for HNRNPKP4 specifically[1][5][9]. It is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other canonical therapeutic target.
