Overview

**Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein K pseudogene 5 (HNRNPKP5)** is a pseudogene; it is a non-protein-coding genomic sequence derived from the parental *HNRNPK* gene, part of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) family. Pseudogenes like HNRNPKP5 typically contain mutations or deletions that prevent them from encoding functional proteins and, as noted for the hnRNP K pseudogene subfamily, there is no evidence for functional protein production from HNRNPKP5[1][3][7]. Although some pseudogenes are transcribed and might have regulatory RNA functions, HNRNPKP5 has not been characterized as a therapeutic target or as a disease-associated locus. Its status as a pseudogene indicates it does not serve as an enzyme, receptor, transporter, or other canonical molecular target class, nor is it currently implicated in any biological functions, pathologies, or pharmacologic interactions[1][5][7].
