HNRNPMP2 is a pseudogene related to the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein M (HNRNPM) gene. Pseudogenes are typically non-coding DNA sequences similar to known genes but are considered nonfunctional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements. There is no evidence that HNRNPMP2 encodes an active protein or acts as a therapeutic target. The functional gene, HNRNPM, encodes a member of the hnRNP family, which are RNA-binding proteins involved in pre-mRNA processing and regulation of mRNA metabolism and transport. This molecule does not correspond to a well-characterized, active molecular target or protein. It appears to be a pseudogene related to the HNRNPM gene, which encodes a member of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs), but HNRNPMP2 itself does not encode a functional protein. The listing of HNRNPMP2 as a therapeutic "target" is incorrect for most practical or research contexts: more likely, interest should center on the functional HNRNPM protein rather than the pseudogene.
