HEXA antisense RNA 1 (HEXA-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene found in humans, also referred to as C15orf34 and other aliases[4]. It is classified as an antisense RNA, meaning it is transcribed from the opposite strand of the DNA at the HEXA locus, and is complementary to the HEXA mRNA. Antisense RNAs often function to regulate the expression of their sense counterparts through mechanisms that can include transcriptional or chromatin-mediated repression, post-transcriptional regulation, or modulation of RNA stability and translation[1]. The precise biological function and disease roles of HEXA-AS1 are not yet well characterized. There is no evidence that HEXA-AS1 acts as a direct therapeutic target, nor are there any approved drugs known to interact with it. However, antisense RNAs as a family are of increasing research interest for their diverse regulatory functions and potential implications in human disease and cancer, though specific data for HEXA-AS1 remains limited[1][4].
