Overview

HEY2 antisense RNA 1 (HEY2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), transcribed from the genome in an antisense orientation to the HEY2 gene, located on chromosome 6 (human genome hg38: chr6:125577545-125749190). As an antisense RNA, it likely acts to regulate the expression of the nearby HEY2 gene by mechanisms typical for natural antisense RNAs, which may include chromatin remodeling, transcriptional interference, RNA duplex formation to stabilize or destabilize sense transcripts, or other forms of post-transcriptional regulation. There is currently little direct evidence that HEY2-AS1 itself is a therapeutic target, or that it is implicated in specific disease mechanisms in the way that more widely studied antisense RNAs (such as HAS2-AS1 or HAND2-AS1) are. No drug interactions, biomarker roles, mechanisms of pharmacological action, or significant therapeutic safety concerns have been described for HEY2-AS1.
