Overview

HID1 domain-containing protein (HID1) is a highly conserved peripheral membrane protein associated with the medial and trans-Golgi apparatus. It is required for secretory granule maturation and is implicated in cellular processes such as insulin processing and vacuole fusion. While HID1 is proposed to participate in intracellular trafficking, its exact function and structural domains are poorly characterized, and it does not belong to any major drug target class such as receptor, enzyme, or transporter. HID1 mutations are associated with developmental and epileptic encephalopathy 105 with hypopituitarism. There is some evidence for down-regulation of HID1 in multiple cancers, but it is not a validated therapeutic target and there are currently no drugs known to interact with it[1][2][4].
