Overview

The high affinity immunoglobulin epsilon receptor subunit alpha (FcεRIα) is the alpha subunit of the high-affinity IgE receptor complex, which plays a central role in allergic responses and immunity to parasites. This protein is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein and serves as the primary binding site for immunoglobulin E (IgE). Upon binding to IgE and subsequent cross-linking by antigen/allergen, it triggers cell activation, leading to degranulation and release of mediators such as histamine, which are responsible for allergy symptoms. It also induces secretion of important lymphokines involved in immune regulation.
