MS4A2 (Membrane Spanning 4-Domains A2) encodes the beta subunit of the high-affinity IgE receptor (FcεRI), which is primarily expressed on mast cells and basophils (UniProt P30273). This subunit acts as a signaling amplifier, significantly increasing the sensitivity and magnitude of the cellular response to IgE-bound allergens (PubMed: 15546383). Genetic variations in the MS4A2 gene have been strongly linked to atopy and bronchial asthma, making it a key focus for respiratory and dermatological research (NCBI Gene: 2206). By reducing the availability of the beta subunit, these therapies aim to decrease the surface density of FcεRI and dampen the allergic cascade without broad immunosuppression.
