High mobility group AT-hook 1 pseudogene 5 (HMGA1P5) is a human processed pseudogene located on chromosome 10q22.2[1][4]. Like other pseudogenes in the HMGA1 family, it arises from the HMGA1 gene, which encodes non-histone chromatin proteins involved in chromatin remodeling and gene regulation, and is implicated in cancer progression. However, HMGA1P5 displays low sequence homology to HMGA1 and may code for a peptide not related to the HMGA1 protein; there are currently no published studies confirming its coding potential or clear biological function[1][4]. Unlike other HMGA1 pseudogenes (such as HMGA1-p, HMGA1P6, and HMGA1P7), there is no evidence that HMGA1P5 functions as a miRNA decoy, ceRNA, or regulates cancer pathways. Its role, if any, in gene regulation, disease, or as a therapeutic target remains unclear and unvalidated. At present, it is categorized as a pseudogene with unknown or low evidence for direct biological activity or therapeutic relevance[1][4]. There are no known drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns specifically associated with HMGA1P5.
