Overview

The high-mobility group box 1-like 1 pseudogene (ENSG00000249433, sometimes referred to as HMGB1P43) is a non-functional genomic region in humans derived from the high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) gene. It retains sequence similarity to the HMGB1 gene but contains disablements such as frameshifts, stop codons, or regulatory mutations that prevent it from encoding a functional protein[4][7][2]. Pseudogenes are typically considered molecular fossils, remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events, and are often transcriptionally inactive. Although some pseudogenes have regulatory functions, there is no evidence to suggest any functional or disease relevance for ENSG00000249433[2][5][7]. It should not be used or interpreted as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any other type of active therapeutic target.
