High mobility group box 1 pseudogene 1 (HMGB1P1)

Target
HMGB1P1
Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

The high mobility group box 1 pseudogene family consists of non-functional genomic copies of the HMGB1 gene. These pseudogenes are transcriptionally inactive or only expressed at low levels, and there is no evidence that they encode a functional protein. Some HMGB1 pseudogenes might influence the expression of the parental HMGB1 gene through RNA-mediated mechanisms, such as acting as competitive endogenous RNAs. The entry "HMGB1P32" appears unrecognized; HMGB1P1 is the canonical pseudogene described in literature and databases. There is no evidence that any HMGB1 pseudogene functions as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or therapeutic target.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; pseudogenes do not encode functional protein and are not direct drug targets.

03

Biological functions

May act as a miRNA decoyMay act as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) affecting parental gene expressionNo direct protein-coding function proven
04

Disease associations

May be involved in gene regulationIndirect associations such as altered parent gene expression impacting diseases like diabetes and cancer are described for other HMGB1 pseudogenes
