Overview

High mobility group box 1 pseudogene 14 (HMGB1P14) is a member of the HMGB1-related pseudogene family. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to known genes but are not translated into functional proteins because of accumulated mutations or deletions. While many pseudogenes, including HMGB1P14, are not protein coding and lack direct biological or disease-related roles, some recent studies suggest that certain pseudogenes can participate in the regulation of their parent genes at the RNA level through competitive endogenous RNA mechanisms or other forms of gene expression modulation. As of current knowledge, HMGB1P14 has not been established as having a functional role and is not considered a therapeutic target.
