High mobility group box 1 pseudogene 18 (HMGB1P18) is a non-functional DNA sequence in the human genome that is designated as a pseudogene related to the HMGB1 family. While typical pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins, they may, in some cases, regulate gene expression by RNA-based mechanisms, such as serving as competing endogenous RNAs or producing small interfering RNAs. There is no direct evidence that HMGB1P18 itself has a biological function or disease role, and it is not considered a therapeutic target.
