Overview

High mobility group box 1 pseudogene 3 (HMGB1P3) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome that is homologous to the high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) protein-coding gene. Pseudogenes like HMGB1P3 generally do not produce functional proteins and are not considered classical therapeutic targets such as receptors, enzymes, or transporters. There is currently no evidence to suggest that HMGB1P3 has an independent biological function, role in disease, or direct drug interactions. The parental gene HMGB1, in contrast, is a well-studied nuclear protein and a therapeutic target in inflammation and cancer, but these properties do not extend to HMGB1P3[2][4].
