High mobility group box 1 pseudogene 30 (HMGB1P30) is a non-coding pseudogene found in the human genome, representing a non-functional DNA sequence derived from the parental HMGB1 gene. Pseudogenes such as HMGB1P30 have accumulated mutations that prevent them from producing functional proteins. While some pseudogenes may potentially regulate their parent gene's expression post-transcriptionally—most notably by acting as miRNA "sponges"—there is no published evidence of HMGB1P30 performing such a regulatory function, nor of any role in disease or as a drug target. Pseudogenes are generally considered to be nonfunctional genomic elements, though a subset can impact gene regulation indirectly in certain contexts.
