High mobility group box 1 pseudogene 4 (HMGB1P4) is a predicted pseudogene in humans, meaning it is a DNA sequence resembling the HMGB1 gene but typically does not encode a functional protein product. Pseudogenes can sometimes exert regulatory effects at the RNA level (e.g., as competitive endogenous RNAs or microRNA sponges), but there is currently no direct evidence for HMGB1P4 participating in such functions or being involved in disease biology. Unlike its parent gene HMGB1, which encodes a highly studied chromatin-associated protein with prominent roles in inflammation and cell stress response[1][3][9], the pseudogene HMGB1P4 is not established as a molecular target, nor is it implicated in disease, drug action, or biomarker use[10][6].
