Overview

High mobility group box 1 pseudogene 46 (HMGB1P46) is a processed pseudogene related to the HMGB family of non-histone DNA-binding proteins, most closely related to HMGB1 and/or HMGB2. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional; they usually lack the ability to encode a functional protein due to interruptions such as frameshift mutations or premature stop codons. While some pseudogenes are transcribed and can exert regulatory roles (e.g., as competitive endogenous RNAs influencing the behavior of their parent genes), there is currently no evidence in the literature supporting such coding, regulatory, or disease-related roles for HMGB1P46 specifically. Thus, it is not considered a drug target or clinical biomarker. The parental gene, HMGB1, is a well-characterized DNA-binding protein involved in chromatin dynamics, immune response, and inflammation, but the pseudogene does not share these functional roles.

Mechanism of action

Not a direct drug target; any possible mechanism would involve nucleic acid interactions or regulation of parental gene expression, not direct protein action

03

Biological functions

No direct protein functionMay have speculative regulatory nucleic acid-based functions (e.g., ceRNA activity for parent gene regulation)
04

Disease associations

No disease role directly establishedParental gene HMGB1 is implicated in many disease processes, but not HMGB1P46 itself
