High mobility group box 3 pseudogene 11 (HMGB3P11) is a nonfunctional, non-coding DNA segment that resembles the gene for high mobility group box 3 (HMGB3), but contains mutations or alterations that prevent its transcription into a functional protein[1][3]. Pseudogenes such as HMGB3P11 do not produce proteins; their sequences are derived from ancestral functional genes. While most pseudogenes have no function, some have been shown to exert regulatory roles in gene expression (e.g., via RNA interference or acting as microRNA decoys), which may indirectly impact biological pathways or disease, but there is no evidence HMGB3P11 is involved in such processes[2][3].
