Overview

High mobility group box 3 pseudogene 25 (HMGB3P25) is a processed pseudogene related to the HMGB gene family. Unlike the protein-coding HMGB1 or HMGB3 genes, HMGB3P25 does not encode a functional protein due to mutations or loss of regulatory elements that render it non-coding[4][6]. Some pseudogenes in the human genome can have regulatory roles—such as serving as microRNA decoys or influencing parental gene expression—but there is no published evidence indicating specific biological function, disease association, or clinical relevance for HMGB3P25[2][6][4]. It is therefore not considered a therapeutic target, does not interact with drugs, and does not serve as a disease biomarker. Its primary significance is as a genomic sequence homologous to HMGB family genes, chiefly maintained through evolutionary duplication events but no longer functional in protein-coding[2][6][4].

Biological functions

No direct biological function as a protein; as a pseudogene, possible minor regulatory or RNA-related function only
03

Disease associations

No direct disease role; not evidenced as a disease gene or therapeutic target. Some pseudogenes are known to influence gene regulation in diseases, but there is no specific evidence for HMGB3P25
