Overview

High mobility group nucleosomal binding domain 2 pseudogene 15 (HMGN2P15) is a processed pseudogene homologous to the HMGN2 gene, which encodes high mobility group proteins involved in nucleosome binding. Pseudogenes like HMGN2P15 do not produce functional proteins but may have regulatory functions at the RNA level, such as microRNA sponging, transcriptional interference, or competitive endogenous RNA activity. There is currently no evidence that HMGN2P15 itself encodes a protein or directly acts as a therapeutic target. However, downregulation of HMGN2P15 expression has been reported in certain cancer subtypes, implying a possible role as a molecular biomarker in research focused on gene expression patterns rather than as a direct drug target[2][4][7][8].

Biological functions

Regulatory RNA functions (general for pseudogenes; may regulate parental gene expression post-transcriptionally)Possible involvement in small RNA or miRNA sponging mechanisms (known for other pseudogenes, but not specifically demonstrated for HMGN2P15)Other
03

Disease associations

Cancer (not direct causation, but downregulated in some tumor cohorts; may have a general biomarker association in expression studies)Other
04

Biomarkers

Expression downregulation noted in lung cancer and triple-negative breast cancer subgroups; function mostly unknown, possibly applicable in transcriptomic studies
