High mobility group nucleosomal binding domain 2 pseudogene 34 (HMGN2P34)

Target
HMGN2P34
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Noncoding RNA
01

Overview

High mobility group nucleosomal binding domain 2 pseudogene 34 (HMGN2P34) is a human pseudogene locus with sequence similarity to the HMGN2 (high mobility group nucleosomal binding domain 2) gene. Pseudogenes are nonfunctional segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but typically do not encode functional protein products due to mutations or genomic rearrangements. They may be transcribed into noncoding RNAs that can regulate their parent gene and other genes via various mechanisms, such as serving as RNA decoys or influencing chromatin structure, but specific biological functions for HMGN2P34 have not been characterized. There is no evidence for HMGN2P34 being a direct disease gene, clinical biomarker, or drug target.

02

Biological functions

Regulates expression of homologous protein-coding genes (via possible RNA-mediated mechanisms such as RNA interference, microRNA decoy, or as a scaffold for RNA-binding proteins; inferred from general pseudogene literature)Possible involvement in post-transcriptional regulation or developmentally dynamic gene expression (inferred from pseudogene family research)
03

Disease associations

Other (while some pseudogenes are implicated in cancer, diabetes, or regulatory function, there is no direct evidence for HMGN2P34 specifically)
