High mobility group nucleosomal binding domain 2 pseudogene 38 (HMGN2P38) is a genomic DNA sequence highly homologous to the functional HMGN2 gene, but is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is not believed to produce a functional protein product. Pseudogenes are generally considered noncoding remnants of genes, although some have been found to be transcribed and, in certain cases, have regulatory functions such as acting as sources of RNA molecules that regulate related genes through complex RNA-based mechanisms. There is currently no evidence that HMGN2P38 encodes a protein, acts as a receptor, or is involved in drug interactions or disease processes.
