High mobility group nucleosome binding domain 1 pseudogene

Overview

High mobility group nucleosome binding domain 1 pseudogene designates one of several non-coding genomic loci that resemble the protein-coding gene High mobility group nucleosome binding domain 1 (HMGN1), but do not produce functional protein products. These pseudogenes are typically denoted in humans by names such as HMGN1P1, HMGN1P15, etc., and are catalogued by different identifiers depending on their chromosomal location[1][3]. They are artifacts of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and do not serve as drug targets, nor are they involved in canonical biological pathways relevant to disease or pharmacology. For functional and drug target information, see the protein-coding gene High mobility group nucleosome binding domain 1 (HMGN1), a chromatin-associated protein with established roles in gene regulation and immunity[2][7]. This, however, is a distinct entity from the pseudogene referenced by ENSG00000258500.
