HMGN1P1 (High mobility group nucleosome binding domain 1 pseudogene 1) is a processed pseudogene related to the high mobility group protein family, specifically the nucleosome binding domain 1 gene. Pseudogenes are genetic sequences that closely resemble functional genes but typically lack protein-coding capability due to accumulated mutations. Recent evidence from other pseudogene families (not directly HMGN1P1) suggests pseudogenes may impact gene expression regulation, acting as RNA decoys or affecting mRNA stability by competing with their parent genes for regulatory factors or miRNAs. In some cases, such as the HMGA1 pseudogenes, abnormal expression and chromosomal rearrangement have been reported in tumors, potentially influencing malignant progression and epigenetic regulation[1][2]. However, no convincing evidence defines HMGN1P1 as a functional regulatory RNA or protein, nor as a direct disease-modifying or therapeutic target.
