Like other pseudogenes, HMGN1P2 cannot produce a functional protein product due to disabling mutations and loss of key regulatory elements[2][3]. Pseudogenes may play indirect roles in modulating gene expression in specific settings—typically through noncoding RNA interference or mRNA stability mechanisms—but there is no evidence of such activity for HMGN1P2. It should not be considered a therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme, and is primarily annotated for genomic reference purposes[2][3].
