Overview

High mobility group nucleosome binding domain 1 pseudogene 26 (HMGN1P26) is a processed pseudogene located on chromosome 9 and is derived from its parent gene, High mobility group nucleosome binding domain 1 (HMGN1). Processed pseudogenes are DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but do not encode proteins due to mutations or absence of necessary coding regions. HMGN1P26 was generated by reverse transcription of HMGN1 mRNA and insertion into the genome, making it a "retrocopy". Although some pseudogenes in other gene families are known to play regulatory roles via RNA-mediated mechanisms (such as acting as microRNA decoys or influencing gene expression via RNA interference), there is currently no published evidence indicating that HMGN1P26 has a biological function, implications in diseases, or drug interactions. It principally exists as a genomic sequence of homology to HMGN1, with no protein product or regulatory annotation. The presence of pseudogenes like HMGN1P26 can complicate genomic analyses and sometimes interfere with experimental interpretation, but they are not themselves biological targets for drug development or therapy.
