High mobility group nucleosome binding domain 1 pseudogene 3 (HMGN1P3) is a pseudogene in the human genome with sequence homology to the parent gene, high mobility group nucleosome binding domain 1 (HMGN1). Like other pseudogenes, HMGN1P3 does not encode a functional protein and its biological significance, if any, would be limited to potential RNA-based regulatory roles, which have not been specifically demonstrated for this locus. Pseudogenes can sometimes affect the regulation of their functional counterparts via RNA-mediated mechanisms, but most remain transcriptionally silent and are considered genomic fossils.
